The Human Resource Association of Treasure Valley is pleased to present the October general membership meeting “Internal Fraud – Risks from Within” presented by Les Lake, CFE, CREI, Manager, Forensic & Valuation, Eide Bailly LLP. During his presentation, Les will discuss:
1. Fraud perspectives – the big picture, and what it really means.
2. Employee fraud – case studies relevant to Idaho.
3. Fraud prevention – what each one of us can do to make a difference.
Les Lake, CFE, CREI
Les has more than 35 years combined experience in public and private accounting, business development and investigative services, specializing in real estate & mortgage loan fraud, governmental compliance, financial and tax analysis. He currently serves as the regional forensic services manager with Eide Bailly, LLP, located in Boise, Idaho. Eide Bailly, LLP, is one of the top 25 national CPA firms headquartered in Fargo, North Dakota.
Public & private accounting experience includes Arthur Andersen & Co. and Morrison Knudsen Co., providing both accounting and audit services for international business clients, heavy construction and commercial real estate development projects.
Government experience includes compliance & regulatory services for the Office of Special Investigations with the Idaho Attorney General’s Office under the leadership of Wayne Kidwell, establishing the Idaho Medicaid Fraud Bureau reporting to Governor John Evans, and serving as the Inspector & Investigator for the Idaho Real Estate Commission under the leadership of Donna Jones. Les has completed over 1,200 financial & compliance audits and investigations, and has reviewed, audited & investigated over 20,000 real estate transactions.
Les is a Certified Fraud Examiner and Certified Real Estate Investigator. He is Yellow Book certified. Les is the president of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners Boise Chapter, and currently serves on the Board of Directors of several organizations, including the Association of Government Accountants Idaho Centennial Chapter, the Idaho Fraud Awareness Coalition and is the Education Committee Chairman with the Idaho Land Title Association. He is the recipient of the ARELLO 2000 Runner-up Investigator of the Year Award for all 50 states and 8 foreign countries and is the pastpresident of the Capitol Club Toastmasters International.
Les is an expert witness, published author and national speaker. Notable events include presenting as the opening speaker for the Association of Government Accountants Professional Development Conference before the Managing Director of the General Accounting Office and Frances Garcia, Inspector General. Recent judiciary presentations include speaking before regional state & federal district justices and attorneys at Washington State University’s Business Law & Ethics Symposium.
