Communications Committee
HRATV is proud to announce the newly created Communications Chair. This position has been a desire of the HRATV Board for some time. The Board is excited to have this volunteer position filled by Doug Pill. Doug has created a committee of HRATV member volunteers including Alex Krone, Doreen Compton- Breish and James Pendergrass.
In a short time, the committee has created an HRATV Social Media Policy, produced a survey of membership to better understand how they are utilizing social media. They have also developed a mission statement and action plan for Engaging, Informing & Growing HRATV members through multiple platforms including the utilization of Social Media, Networking Events & Outreach to the Human Resources Community.
The Committee has also focused on the upgrade and execution of our primary Social Media Platforms including changes to the HRATV LinkedIn Group, the Development of both a Twitter Handle and a Facebook Page. We encourage all members to join, find & like us at each platform and begin engaging with fellow HRATV members. These have truly been created for the use of our membership to allow for more efficient communication within our membership.
As previously mentioned, we have made changes to the HRATV LinkedIn Group. Recently we have “Closed” the HRATV LinkedIn Group. This does not mean we have taken down the group but rather all new member requests are reviewed to ensure we maintain a no solicitation policy within the group. We also engage in dialog with new group candidates explaining our expectations of what can and cannot be contributed regarding content. We would also ask our existing group members to be mindful of our no solicitation policy in the group. Our goal is to ensure our members have an open free venue to discuss HR & HR related content.
To ensure all outbound content from the committee will be consistent across all (3) platforms, we have created an account with a client suite called HootSuite. HootSuite allows for content to be distributed from a central location while posting to all (3) platforms simultaneously.
One of the areas our members requested assistance during the survey was training in Social Media. For this reason we will begin holding Social Media training sessions in January. Please be on the lookout for event notification(s). Our initial intentions with these sessions are to engage interested individuals in each of our platforms i.e. LinkedIn, Twitter & Facebook. Our vision is to create smaller/non-intimidating sessions where we can start from the beginning (account creation) if needed and walk individuals through the platform through content distribution. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Jana Straubhar of Transform Solar for offering the computer lab at the Nampa Transform Solar site for our training sessions.
On a global scale Social Media is quickly becoming HR’s best friend. In today’s digital age more and more HR departments are relying on Social Media to communicate internally/externally, recruit candidates and qualify candidates. A recent example of this is a 2011 survey by Jobvite that showed 80% of companies use social media for recruiting and 95% use LinkedIn. The HR world is evolving at light speed; our goal is to ensure HRATV members have the tools, resources and skills to maintain pace.
In conclusion, our objective is to have a well-connected and engaging Human Resources Community. This committee will know we are doing our job when we begin to see our members engaging in the utilization of our platforms with great questions, content and feedback.
Thank you,
Doug Pill
HRATV Communications Chair
